WHAT DOES "JIHAD" MEAN?
Many people associate the word "jihad" with violence or terrorism. However, the Arabic word "jihad" originally means "struggle," "effort," or "striving."
Throughout history, the term has been used in different ways by different people. In its most basic sense, it describes a struggle toward a goal.
The title The Good Jihad refers to the struggle for faith, hope, forgiveness, and obedience to God. It is the journey of fighting the good fight, remaining faithful in hardship, and pursuing God's purpose despite opposition.
As the Apostle Paul wrote:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)
What Do I Mean by "The Good Jihad"
The Christian life is a lifelong struggle of faith, obedience, and surrender to God. Scripture calls believers to fight the good fight of faith, denying themselves daily and following Christ no matter the cost.
The Good Jihad is not a struggle against people, but against the selfish nature within us. It is the battle to submit to God's will, put to death the flesh, and allow Christ to live through us.
This book tells the story of that journey—a struggle to trust God in suffering, remain faithful through persecution, and pursue His purpose above our own.

Meet the Author
Ra'id Al Safadi is a pastor, church planter, and founder of Irvine Arabic Church in Orange County, California.
Born and raised in Jordan, he spent many years serving in ministry and helping establish churches in areas with little Christian witness. During this time, he faced significant challenges that eventually led to the closure of his church and his departure from his homeland.
Through these experiences, Ra'id witnessed God's faithfulness, provision, and grace. The Good Jihad tells the story of that journey and the lessons God taught him through suffering, perseverance, and obedience.
Today, he continues to share the hope of Christ through church planting, leadership development, and discipleship ministry.
